OFFICERS from the Guardia Civil have seized more than 770 pairs of training shoes at Almeria port.
The discovery was made during a routine vehicle inspection as cars disembarked from a Nador (Morocco) ship. The driver had tried to conceal the shoes inside bags spread throughout the vehicle.
The vehicle, driven by a resident of Manlleu in Barcelona, had passed through stating: “Nothing to Declare.” However, the Guardia Civil officers could see a large number of plastic bags so made the decision to take a closer look.
The officers found 772 pairs of training shoes in the car, all of them from leading brands. The driver was arrested and charged with committing a smuggling offence. They and their case details were referred to Customs and Excise.
