El Gordo smiles on Malaga

CHRISTMAS came early to Malaga Province on Monday with more than €40 million in prizes scooped up by ticket holders in the El Gordo Christmas lottery.

Parts of the first, second, fourth and fifth prize massive payouts were sold across the province, in San Pedro de Alcantara, Torremolinos, Benalmadena Arroyo de la Miel, Alhaurin de la Torre, Ronda, Mijas, Fuengirola, Antequera, Casares, Villaneuva de Tapia and   Malaga City.

Tickets with the second prize number – 92845 – will net the winners €125,000 each. They were the biggest winners in Southern Spain following a number of first prize tickets – 13437 – which were sold in Cadiz.

The El Gordo draw is the world’s largest lottery in terms of payouts, and more than €3.5 billion was shared among thousands of winners. When the top prize ball – €4 million – emerged from the spinning golden globe, Champagne corks popped as the winners realised that the Christmas lottery had smiled on them.
