Nerja seeks Nymph and Clown King for carnival

Carnival season is around the corner and Nerja is kicking off preparations with the election of the King and Nymph of Carnival 2015.

Those who would like to take the throne and become King – known as ‘Momo’ – and Nymph of Nerja wannabes have until February 10 to register.

Participants will perform a five-minute original extravaganza, using costumes, music, props and back-up dancers.

Candidates are requested to be aged over 16 for the adult category and over eight years old for the children’s category.

They will have to bring their registration sheet, as well as a photocopy of their DNI (Spanish identification).

Those under 18 years old will need parental or guardian permission.

The king will receive the title of ‘Rey Momo’ (The Clown King) and a jury will assess the level of originality, quality of materials used in costumes and props, as well as overall performance.

First prize for the adult category is €1,600, and €600 for the winner of the children’s category. The runners-up will win €1,200 and €450, while third prize will be €1,000 and €350, respectively.

The carnival will take place between February 12 and 15, and was named ‘Festivity of Touristic Attraction’ by Malaga Provincial Council in 2013, as Nerja residents have turned their carnival into one of the must-see events in the province.

Registrations can be made at the Popular Traditions office, Calle Cristo 12, first floor. More information can be found at http://www.nerja.es/
