Javea flying high in Winter League

TOP SPOT: Javea Green Winter League team.

AT the half way point in the Costa Blanca Winter League competition, Javea Green are in first position. The last match away to Vistabella saw a weakened Javea team due to several key players being missing.  Thanks to Sheri Fletcher and Clive English´s teams they managed to gain four points which was sufficient to give them top slot.

Alan Phillip´s team had a nip and tuck game but lost by four shots and John North´s team battled, from being down,  to get back to within two shots, but ultimately lost by five.  The Berleen team also lost,  leaving them joint sixth in the league.

In the Northern League, Javea Green´s Opal team had a good start to the year with a 10-0 away win against Bonalba.  Their two top scoring teams were Greg Sperring, Brian Walker and Clive English who had a very comfortable win of 24 shots to nine and Wendy Symonds, Chris Evans and Barry Elms, who also had a comfortable win of 23 shots to nine.

Felicity Jenkins´s team won by 18 shots to 16 and John Coates´s team made it the perfect score with a 16-14 win. The challengers team skipped by Louis Symonds drew their game.

Javea’s Onyx team played against Javea’s Quartz team and all matches went down to the wire,  the final result was Quartz 3 Onyx 7. The only winning Quartz team was Tony Metcalfe, Gary Kent and Jenny Rich but most incredible result was that of Ken Davey, John Pittaway and Brenda Burgess who  went into the last end seven shots down, but  managed to get the seven needed on the 18th end to provide them with a well deserved draw.

The challengers team consisting of Brian Taylor, Stan Staines and Chris Blackstone  had a comfortable win of 31-7.
