ONE of the men who brought terror to the streets of France spent three days in Madrid at the start of the year.
Now police are investigating whether Amedy Coulibaly, who killed a policewoman and four Jewish hostages in a delicatessen, met up with anyone in the Spanish capital city.
He drove to Madrid on December 31 with his girlfriend Hayat Boumeddiene, who took a flight to Istanbul on January 2. Coulibaly then returned to Paris where he was to launch his terrorist attack.
He was an associate of the gunmen brothers Chérif and Said Kouachi, who killed 12 people in the offices of Charlie Hebdo.
French authorities have now been in contact with the Spanish security services to see if Coulibaly had been in contact with anyone on his visit. Sources say no calls were made from his mobile phone during his stay, and the authorities are still trying to find out where he stayed.
Boumeddiene is said to have then travelled through Turkey and finally entered Syria on January 8.
