Archaeological remains found in works on Alicante's Esplanade

WORK on Alicante’s Esplanade has uncovered the foundations of one of the towers of the old Puerta del Mar. 

The remains are part of guarding gates at the city walls of the 16^th century tower and were uncovered during the last phase of the work.

The Esplanade work began in November and is due to be completed at the end of the month. Archaeological monitoring is being carried out by a technical expert in collaboration with the Department of Culture.

The town hall is now studying the remains and assessing whether they are to be covered or remain in view.
