Illegal tobacco factory discovered in Sevilla

THE largest illegal cigarette factory ever found in Spain has been busted by Guardia Civil. Ten people in Andalucia have been arrested for their role in producing around 65,000 packets of cigarettes per day at the illegal factory in Sevilla.

Thirty tonnes of illegal tobacco and 64,500 packs of cigarettes ready for sale to the public were discovered when Guardia Civil raided homes, industrial premises and plots of land in the north of the province. Firearms, 129 cases of tobacco, €60,000 in cash, four motor vehicles and machinery used for the producing and packaging of cigarettes were seized by the police. Reports indicate that many of the packets of cigarettes bore the brand name ‘American Legend.’

Among the 10 people arrested – two of whom are Greeks – are various people with previous records related to drug and tobacco smuggling. Three more individuals have been placed under investigation in the ongoing operation.
