A busy and rewarding year for Lions Club

VERA and District Lions Club had a busy 2014 culminating in four days bag-packing at Iceland.

They raised lots of money for good causes including for six-year-old Antonio Cortes from Vera.

Antonio has Guilleme Barre syndrome and needs specialist treatment which is not covered by the Spanish health system.

Local charities have also benefited from the club’s fundraising activities including the Vera and Turre food banks, Cruz Roja (Red Cross), Asprodalba, Ver de Olula and Asadis.

Events included social gatherings, fairs, music nights and raffles. Often the support is practical rather than monetary but it is always good fun.

They have collected spectacles for recycling to those in need in Spain and in poorer countries and also plastic bottle tops which go to Ver de Olula where they are recycled to help fund a new and bigger centre for disabled children.

To get involved with the Lions, contact the president, Sandie Tinkham, on 950 439 324 or the secretary Pam Mattioli on 610 309 032.

The Lions meet on the first Wednesday of each month at El Gnomo Feliz at 6pm.

The club would like to point out that all visitors will be made very welcome.
