COUNCILLORS: Katja Westerdahl and Isabel Gonzalez remind expats to renew their registration.
FUENGIROLA COUNCIL has sent letters to 3,300 foreign residents of the Costa de Sol town reminding them of their obligation to renew their registration on the padron (residents’ register) every two years.
Foreign Residents’ councillor Kajte Westerdahl and Internal Organisation councillor Isabel Gonzalez explained the importance of renewing padron information and explained that Fuengirola residents can renew their registration by email, telephone or post.
“European Union citizens must confirm their residence every two years. This means they must confirm that they still live at the same address. It’s important to do so as otherwise they could be struck off the padron and lose the rights and benefits they obtain from being registered,” Westerdahl said.
The National Statistics Institute (INE) asks councils for information on inhabitants and if a foreign resident has not renewed their registration the INE has the power to remove them from the list to avoid having people registered who do not really live in the town.
