SKOLKOVO GOLF: One of Russia’s finest courses.
A COSTA DEL SOL-based photographer has scored a hole-in-one by having one of his stunning images selected for inclusion in one of golf’s major calendars for 2015.
Swedish freelance photographer Michael Denker – an Estepona resident since 2002 – is featured in this year’s Jack Nicklaus golfing calendar with a spectacular photo of Skolkovo Golf Club in Moscow, Russia. Michael’s late-afternoon sunshine shot is used for the month of May in the calendar.
Golfing legend Nicklaus – widely regarded as the greatest golfer of all time – selected Michael’s image from hundreds of submissions for inclusion in this year’s calendar, which also features golfing tips from the man who won a total of 18 majors during his career.
“It’s a great honour to have one of my photos selected for the calendar,” said Michael. “It came as a shock because I didn’t submit the photo myself. It was the management of the golf course in Russia that submitted it and when I got an email from the calendar people to say they wanted to use it I was delighted. Jack Nicklaus is such a big name in golf so it’s amazing to be part of his choices.”
Michael is no stranger to golf photography, having been employed by Volvo for a number of years to cover the Volvo Masters golf tournaments. He is also commissioned by Callaway Golf for various assignments and has travelled the world taking photos of major golfing tournaments and courses.
He is currently working with Turkish Airlines and also photographs major yachting events around the globe.
“It’s great that I get to travel so much doing what I love,” said Michael. “But I always love coming back to Estepona after a long assignment.”
