A DOCTOR in s’Arenal is facing a three-year prison sentence for looking through his colleagues’ medical records without permission.

In February of 2002, one of the workers at the outpatient clinic found out thanks to a colour code which displayed the records that had been recently opened, that the accused had looked through one of his colleague’s files.

The clinic’s management was alerted and traced back to him 25 unjustified record visits from another five doctors and an administration worker.

The accused denied having ever checked his workmate’s records and said: “I have never looked through health records unless it was to assist a patient.”

He added that the computer was often left unsupervised in his office and that anybody could have accessed the records.
