FASHION LINEUP: Manuel Fernandez, fifth from right.
“FASHION ART,” featuring Benidorm-born Manuel Fernandez, opened recently at the town hall’s function room.
The paint-decorated clothes, created by fashioner designer and artist Fernandez, reached Benidorm after exhibitions at some of the most prestigious art museums in Europe and the United States.
Present at the exhibition, opened by Benidorm’s mayor Agustin Navarro, Tourism councillor Gema Amor and the artist himself, were many of Fernandez’s friends and colleagues. These included actresses Loles Leon and Maria Pineda, television personality and presenter Francine Galvez, as well as presenter Ximo Rovira and the writer Josep Lozano.
Former Benidorm mayors Eduardo Zaplana – later a government minister – and Manuel Catalan Chana were also present, together with representatives from prominent hotel chains and the hoteliers’ association Hosbec.
He was most happy to be able to display his work in his home town, Manuel Fernandez said. “My aim is to take art out of museums and into places like this town hall so that it can become a cultural space,” he declared.
