A CAMPAIGN has been launched by the Equality Department of Nerja Council to promote equality amongst secondary students.

Head of the department, Gema Garcia, explained that the campaign is aimed at raising awareness amongst the students to prevent gender-based violence.

Together with the coordinators for equality in local secondary schools Sierra Almijara and Chaparil, Ms Garcia presented projects such as the creation of a branch office of the Women’s Information Centre in each school, which will offer its service twice every month.

Council workers will also visit the schools to give courses on March 8, the occasion of International Women’s Day. The students will be taught about gender inequalities and how to reduce them.

Finally, a survey will be carried out to monitor experiences of sexism amongst the students. The data obtained will be unveiled on March 8.
