Braininess is in the blood

RESEARCHERS have discovered the presence of a so-called ‘smart gene’ that gives carriers an enhanced mental ability.

Scientists say that one in five is believed to carry the gene variant, known as KL-VS, which is also associated with a long lifespan and having a larger part of the brain that is linked to decision making.

They say the discovery could have implications for sufferers of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, with scientists able to identify the gene to help predict brain health and find ways to protect people from diseases like Alzheimer’s.
