A welcoming ambience awaits at the Everest Tandoori

THE Everest Tandoori in Calle Joan de Garay, Calpe, is run by a Nepalese family, headed by our host Ishor Gautam. The ambience of the restaurant is welcoming and thoughtfully decorated, reflecting Nepalese culture and art, with appropriate but unobtrusive background music, an ideal environment in which to enjoy your meal.

The first thing we noticed was that our ‘table for two’ was larger than the usual tiny affair, there would be no crowding of the serving bowls or any need to balance the wine glass tonight!

Ishor suggested the ‘€25 for Two People, Special Menu.’ We were treated to a refreshing glass of house cider to welcome us, poppadoms and pickles for appetisers, then two plates of mixed starters before the main event.

THE €25 SPECIAL allows diners to choose any two dishes from the entire menu of the restaurant, a vege-table dish and dessert. No ‘taster’ menu here, these are full portions!

We had Chicken Tikka Masala and a Lamb Balti along with Pilau Rice and a choice of Plain, Garlic or Peshwari Naan. Our Peshwari was fresh and full of coconut, just as it should be and a special mention has to be made of the Balti, an enhancement to any table from Baltistan to Birmingham, we had no option but to immediately congratulate Ishor on the dish.

A dessert of either vanilla or home-made mango ice cream or coffee is included and makes a pleasant conclusion to an extremely enjoyable meal.

The €25 Special Menu is available every day including weekends but during ‘HAPPY HOUR,’ from 6pm to 7.30pm every day, exactly the same feast will only cost €9.95 per person!

Ishor’s many years hospitality experience are obvious in his friendly and practised professional manner.

Although our visit was January midweek, the 70-seater restaurant had plenty of guests and we strongly recommend you become one of them very soon.
