STOP Rumours is a project Andalucia Acoge association has created to raise awareness and end misconceptions about immigration amongst school students.
Representatives are visiting secondary schools across the province of Malaga to give talks to encourage teenagers to think for themselves and stop believing prejudiced rumours they hear about immigrants.
The representatives use official studies, government reports and various investigation results to knock down preconceived opinions and allow the young people to make their own informed opinions.
Rumours are often heard are that immigrants overwhelm the health system, take jobs from local people or have priority over Spaniards for social services just because they’re foreign. The project aims to support students to think critically when they hear such stories, rather than believing all they are told or hear on the streets.
