IN another tentative sign of optimism in the property sector in Spain, the organisers of the international property fair, SIMA, have announced they’re looking to extend their exhibition space.

SIMA holds its 17th exposition from May 7–10 this year in Madrid, the biggest property sector fair in Spain. Organisers say they’ve experienced such high levels of demand from exhibitors, they have to consider booking more space in the city’s giant IFEMA arena.

There are currently 50 Spanish and international companies renting stands at this year’s event, and SIMA say their clients are requesting 20 per cent more room to show their wares than last year.

Eloy Bohúa, the managing director of Planner Exhibitions, responsible for putting on the exhibition, said this week that the growth in demand was “without a doubt, good news, and not only for SIMA.”

He added that the annual event was generally a good indicator of the mood of the market, and “the elevated level of requests for space by the exhibitors can only be interpreted in terms of confidence. The market revived in 2014 and everything seems to indicate that 2015 will be the year of consolidation. SIMA is simply anticipating it.”
