Beauty beheld from 100 feet

AINHOA SANCHEZ/VOLVO OCEAN RACE.

DONFENG RACE TEAM had a very special visitor in Sanya, China last week. After storming into the Chinese port in first place for the third leg of the Volvo Ocean Race, the team welcomed the newly crowned Miss World, Rolene Strauss.

The South African beauty showed that she certainly has a head for heights, capturing a ‘selfie’ up the 100 foot mast of a Volvo Ocean Race boat. The 22-year-old – who won the Miss World contest in London in December 2014 – shimmied up the mast and took in the impressive view of the harbour.

“The scenery is so beautiful and it was lovely being out there on the ocean,” she told www.volvooceanrace.com “I just fell in love with Sanya and with everything. It felt it was like I was on top of the world. I drew a big eye (on the mast), looking down on the boat, and then I wrote ‘one world, one strength.’ If the crew works together as one they will have more strength and they will prosper in the race.

Dongfeng certainly have the momentum at the moment and will be hoping to replicate their success in the fourth leg from Sanya to Auckland in New Zealand.

Dongfeng and the rest of the fleet left China last Sunday (February 8) on the 38,739- nautical mile stretch. The boats are expected to arrive sometime around February 27.
