Marineland hits back at 'cruelty' video'

A VIDEO allegedly showing trainers mistreating and beating dolphins at Mallorca’s dolphin park Marineland has sparked outrage amongst animal rights associations and citizens.

But the park has hit back saying the video appears to have been edited together from different clips and does not show the reality of training sessions.

The video was leaked by SOSdolphins, a group of organisations created to expose suffering, high mortality rates and mistreatment experienced by captive sea mammals.

In the video, phrases such as “lazy, you are so lazy,” “I am going to hit you with the bucket,” and “Are you stupid?” are screamed at the dolphins by trainers, who are also seen apparently punching and kicking the animals.

But Marineland in a statement said: “We completely reject all sort of degrading treatment towards animals. We, at the park, are surprised as any other viewers by the negative approach taken in the video released recently.

“This sort of behaviour is not taking place and has not taken place in any European dolphin parks that we have knowledge of.”
