MORE than 200 artists will participate in the fourth edition of Malaga’s marathon ‘Bienal de Flamenco,’ which kicked off this week.

This major, seven-month event, organised by Malaga Provincial Council through the Costa del Sol Tourism society, celebrates everything flamenco.

The event’s programme was unveiled by head of the provincial council, Elias Bendodo, who explained that the Flamenco Bienal would not only host dance performances but also concerts, conferences, exhibitions, courses, film showings and educational workshops for children.

Around 120 activities are scheduled to take place in almost 40 different towns and villages around Malaga.

With a budget of €300,000, the celebration will see performances from an array of renowned artists, amongst which are Jose Merce, Marina Heredia, Jesus Mendez, Rafael Riqueni, Manolo Franco, Antonio Reyes, Cancanilla, Maria Jose Santiago, Antonia Contreras, Virginia Gamez, Luisa Muñoz and Carreta.

On March 7, the Provincial Council’s Equality Department will hold a free performance titled ‘Mujeres’ (Women), featuring Fatima Navarro.
