HOLLYWOOD is the key to attracting more American and Canadian visitors to Andalucia, recently appointed Tourism Delegate Luciano Alonso believes.
Although he has only been at the head of the Junta de Andalucia regional government tourism department for a month, Alonso is already looking to the stars and announced his intention to visit Los Angeles in an attempt to attract the American film industry to the region.
The delegate said he hoped for a similar effect to that seen after Woody Allen filmed Vicky Cristina Barcelona, when the numbers of tourists from across the pond multiplied.
Alonso stressed that these tourists are of particular interest to Andalucia as they tend to spend more than European visitors.
“While an American tourist spends an average of €2,525 while here, the average for European visitors is less than €550,” Alonso said.
Although no dates have yet been announced, the tourism delegate claimed he intended to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.
