A GROUP of students from the Institute of Technology Tralee in Ireland have visited Nerja to learn about tourism seasonality.
The students met with Tourism Development councillor, Sandra Jimena, to gather information about action the town is taking to reduce tourism seasonality. The research trip forms part of the content of their tourism degree.
The main issues tackled during the interview were to get to know firsthand the action taken by the Tourism Department to attract tourists throughout the year, such as the different festivals, particularly the carnival events.
Their study consists of comparing the measures taken by their own hometown in Kerry, Ireland and those followed in Andalucia.
Students expressed their satisfaction after the meeting at having gathered a great amount of information, which was useful for their projects.
They were also surprised by the great success of the carnival festivities in terms of participation and the atmosphere around Nerja during this season.
