NERJA mayor, Jose Alberto Armijo, will request that the Junta de Andalucia regional government extends the Malaga to Fuengirola train line to Maro, in the east, and Manilva in the west.
Mayors of several Axarquia and Eastern Costa del Sol towns had already complained as they wanted the future plans for a Marbella extension to the line to also include towns in the other direction at least as far as Nerja.
Mr Armijo will present a motion requesting the Junta de Andalucia allocate a budget for a Maro district to Manilva extension.
Head of the PP conservative party in Nerja, Jose Miguel Garcia, explained that the motion would also request that the Development Ministry consider this project within the study that is currently being carried out on the potential for the costal train, and include it in the European Union investment plan.
Mr Garcia claimed that the extension could not be limited to reaching Marbella and added: “It has to reach Maro, the Nerja Caves and Manilva. The government has to stop discriminating against Malaga’s eastern coast.”
“It is necessary to combine all efforts to achieve the Maro-Manilva route for the coastal train, particularly now that the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has launched an investment plan for Spain,” reads the motion.
