CUEVAS DEL ALMANZORA held its first Traditional Mask Contest with La Sastreria Maestro Perales (Master Tailors of Perales) and Los Panaderos (The Bakers) taking the top prizes.
Groups of children and adults have been spending their time decorating masks in preparation for the competition, the first in the town. Councillors and organisers of the competition were on hand to present awards to the fantastic winners.
Los Panaderos won the children’s prize and gained €50, redeemable for school supplies. They were followed by Capitana America and Los Militares, who earned second and third place respectively. La Sastreria Maestro Perales nabbed the adult prize and got €100. Mercado de la Plaza de Abastos took second place.
The week’s festivities continued with the ‘burial of the sardine’ and traditional family games, culminating in the main parade on Saturday February 21.
