La Nucia combats growing problem of cyberbullying

LA NUCIA recently held a round table discussion on cyberbullying at the town’s SEU Universitario.

This was the first in a series of meetings programmed by the town hall in response to popular demand and to provide the teaching community with the knowledge and tools to combat internet bullying.

The discussion was coordinated by the chief of La Nucia’s Local Police, Javier Burrueco. Participants included the town’s Social Media and Education councillors as well as psychologists, a school inspector and a Guardia Civil officer.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp and the internet are increasingly used by the young and by schoolchildren who access them without any type of control. “Cyberbullying and bullying at school are two problems for society in general and in La Nucia, too,” admitted the town’s Education councillor, Pedro Lloret.

“The latest technologies and social networks have increased bullying to levels that would once have been unthought-of. We have to work to find weapons to stem cyberbullying with the cooperation of parents, psychologists, police and councillors.”
