FACELIFT: Where to park?
COMPLETELY remodelling Altea’s main shopping street, Jaume I, has now begun.
This will radically alter its aspect with wider pavements, a resurfaced central lane for traffic, plus new street lights and urban fittings.
The object is to make the Avenida more attractive commercially, said Sebastian Gomez and Jaime Selles, respective Neighbourhood and Traffic councillors.
All changes have been agreed with Avenida residents as well as business owners, the councillors claimed, following rounds of meetings. They will also be provided with information regarding the evolution of the project.
“It is essential that everyone has up-to-date information so they are affected as little as possible, since parking spaces are being eliminated and the road is sometimes cut off,” Gomez said.
Parking has triggered the biggest problems and loudest grumbles but the town hall has come to an agreement with nearby underground car-parks. They will charge half-price during the facelift’s first month, while the town hall will reimburse them with the other 50 per cent.
