AN EDICT has been signed by the mayor of Mijas to lay down rules for caravans and camper vans parking at the La Cala fairground.
The document, which has been created due to the increased popularity of caravan tourism over recent years, states that vehicle owners can spend up to 15 days on the fairground and must sign a register at the council offices.
Camper van and caravan users must also respect hygiene, recycling and cleanliness rules included in a leaflet (in both Spanish and English) they will be given upon signing the register.
To sign the register, vehicle owners must provide ID and copies of the vehicle’s technical card, proof of insurance and ITV technical inspection documents.
Many tourists choose to spend their holidays caravanning in La Cala. Mayor Angel Nozal explained after signing the edict that he firmly believed the style of holidaying was to be welcomed, as it helped reduce seasonal slumps for the Mijas tourism sector and provided income to local businesses.
