MURCIA City’s mayor, Miguel Angel Camara, is not standing for re-election in May. After 20 years as mayor, he has confirmed he is standing down.
His decision comes as he is questioned in relation to the Umbra case relating to various alleged construction-related irregularities, including the Nueva Condomina football stadium. The mayor has continually maintained his innocence.
Following the announcement, the PP party has confirmed that Jose Ballesta, a former regional minister for public works, will replace Camara as the PP candidate for mayor of Murcia.
