Village centre prepares for major improvements

A CONTRACT for major improvement works on much of the historic centre of Mijas Pueblo has been awarded to Acciona company.

Acciona now has 10 days to provide a €1.5 million deposit as a guarantee that the work will be correctly completed and work is expected to begin after Easter.

The town hall has drawn up a schedule for the work which aims to hinder commercial, tourist and school activities as little as possible.

Areas including the La Villa hill and Campos, Barrio Santana and Coin streets will be the first to have work done, while Avenida de Mejico and Cañada Gertrudis will not be touched until July when the school holidays have started.

Work on the Plaza Virgen de la Peña, Calle Malaga, Plaza de la Paz, Plaza de la Constitucion and Avenida Virgen de la Peña will not begin until at least October, and in the case of the Plaza Virgen de la Peña must be finished before December 31.
