Costa tourism looking good

THE Costa del Sol had one of its best years ever in 2014 and looks to be ready to do it again.

A new report on Spanish tourist destination hotel profits and employment by Exceltur tourism group gave the Costa del Sol, along with the Canary and Balearic Islands, as the places in Spain where tourism-related profits and jobs increased the most in 2014.

Coastal towns including Estepona, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Torremolinos saw more visitors leaving more profit than in previous years, partly down to a tourism crisis in Eastern Mediterranean countries according to the group.

Following a year when more than 10 million visitors came to the Costa, figures are already looking good with a reported 1.3 million travellers passing through Malaga-Costa del Sol airport so far in 2015.

Intense promotion of the destination at travel fairs across the world and guided visits for tour-operators are part of the province’s scheme this year to boost the industry more than ever and hopefully beat last year’s records.
