Javea mourns gender violence victim

REPULSE: Minute’s silence in memory of Hanane

ALICANTE Province claims the shameful honour of heading 2015’s blacklist of gender violence.

Four of the seven women killed by partners in Spain lived in Alicante Province, it has been revealed.

Amongst them was 43-year-old Hanane, a 43-year-old Moroccan living in Javea who lost her life at the hands of her now-remanded husband.

The town hall decreed three days of mourning after she died in hospital following a brutal beating eight days earlier.  In a council chamber filled with the public, the Corporation conveyed its condolences to the victim’s friends and family.

Javea’s mayor Jose Chulvi expressed the town’s solidarity with women everywhere who are subjected to gender violence. The council is committed to continuing to prevent violence towards women and promoting equality between the sexes, Chulvi declared.
