A THREE per cent increase in sales has been foreseen by Mallorca’s Small and Medium-sized businesses Association (Pimeco).
Head of the association, Bernat Coll, announced the news in a press conference and stressed that 2014 has been the best year for this industry since the beginning of the financial crisis.
Mr Coll explained that the retail industry generated in 2014 a total of €94 million more than in the previous year.
He added that in 2014, 10,551 self-employed and 28,072 employees were registered in Mallorca, a figure that represents a 2.6 per cent increase in comparison with the previous year.
Mr Coll highlighted the positive impact that cruise tourism has represented for the industry, as 29 per cent of all cruise passengers who arrived in Mallorca carried out purchases in small or medium sized stores in 2014.
