LEADERS and policymakers of 30 major European Cities have gathered in Paris today to state their commitment to use clean energy policies to fight climate change.
Officials will sign a document agreeing to use their combined financial buying power of around 10 billion Euros per year to purchase environmentally friendly products and services. In a combined statement signed by 26 mayors, including Boris Johnson, the current mayor of London, they said they hoped that this statement would have a leverage effect on the public sector.
All the mayors came to Paris’s City Hall in electric cars that are part of city’s car-sharing service. This meeting comes eight months before the United Nations climate change conference, which will also be hosted in Paris.
