A WOMAN from Murcia has spoken of her lucky escape after she was due to travel on the ill-fated Germanwings flight from Barcelona to Dusseldorf last week, but later changed her flight to leave from Alicante-Elche airport.

Born in La Union and based in San Javier, the woman, called Esther, said: “I don’t know why I changed and decided to fly from Alicante and not from Barcelona.”

It is a decision that ultimately saved her life. She was flying to Dusseldorf for work with a companion, who then was unable to make the flight so she changed hers to fly from Alicante.

Upon hearing the news that the flight they were due to take had crashed, she said there were mixed feelings: “There is a sense of relief at it all, you feel odd and terrible for the people.

“A thousand things went through my head. I did not sleep uneasily, but I woke up every hour so I guess it was there in my subconscious.”
