Mijas Council puts foot down over old tip

MIJAS Council has agreed to insist the Junta de Andalucia regional government pushes for an old tip in Entrerrios to be correctly sealed off.

The tip, which was run by the company FCC, has been closed for more than three years but has yet to be correctly sealed off.

Municipal spokesman Mario Bravo explained that the Junta had demanded a guarantee from the company at the time, and if the company did not meet its responsibility to seal the former recycling plant, the guarantee should be used to do so.

Mijas waste has since mid-2011 been taken to the recycling plant in Casares. This change saves Mijas more than €4 per tonne of waste as transport is free and the Casares plant is open 24 hours per day, meaning waste is never left on the streets, the municipal spokesman explained.
