THE Copacabana beach bar in Playamar, Torremolinos, which was destroyed by a tornado last autumn, has finally re-opened to the public after four tough months of rebuilding.
Although many things were affected by the tornado last November 27, the worst hit in the area was Copacabana, as owner Salvador Garcia discovered when he was alerted by the police.
Garcia will never forget that morning: “I thought 20 years of my life had gone down the drain in five minutes. The Local Police phoned me after the alarm went off and said the bar had been damaged but I had no idea it would be that bad.”
After four long months of work, the chiringuito has risen phoenix-style from its pile of debris and is once again ready to cater for customers, which in the past have included footballers Iker Casillas and Gonzalo Higuain, leaving the tornado as just another memory.
