Pay-and-display areas to become operational in Velez-Malaga

PAY-AND-DISPLAY parking areas in Velez-Malaga and Torre del Mar are scheduled to become operational by next Monday (April 20).

The town mayor, Francisco Delgado Bonilla, together with head of AMIVEL, the association for people with disabilities in charge of the service, Cristina Quintero presented the details of the initiative on Tuesday (April 14), after it had been repeatedly requested by many local residents.

The parking wardens who will enforce the scheme are local people with disabilities.

“We want to launch this first phase of the project with caution and common sense,” said Mr Delgado. He continued: “These areas are expected to help traders and business owners of our town, and were created with a charitable spirit, as it aims to socially integrate the disabled community thanks to AMIVEL.”

The mayor explained that that the first phase will affect 177 parking spaces, distributed between Velez-Malaga (Calle Canalejas, Plaza San Antonio de Padua and the new retail market) and Torre del Mar (Plaza Axarquia and retail market).

Prices established range between €0.35 after half an hour, to €1.40 for two hours.

Residents of affected areas will have a special bonus of €2.50 per week.
