LOCAL POLICE in Calvia arrested a 24-year-old on Wednesday (April 15) accused of carrying out three sexual assaults in Santa Ponça.

The investigation began in June of 2014, when officers noticed an unusual increase in the number of sexual assault reports registered in the area.

The first case was reported by an Irish tourist who was tackled by a man who allegedly assaulted her. Days later, an English woman reported an attack and gave a similar description of a man. The third case was of a Spanish woman who offered resistance and was able to escape the attack.

The Guardia Civil noticed that the descriptions of the suspect provided by the victims coincided, and a few weeks ago they found the 24-year-old, who already had a criminal record for similar crimes and is now the main suspect.

Authorities burst into a home in the Palmanyola residential complex, where the suspect resides, and proceeded to arrest him.
