LOW COST flight companies transported 169,968 passengers to and from the Balearic Islands during the first three months of 2015.
The figure is a 34.6 per cent increase on the same period of 2014, according to the data released by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.
The Son Sant Joan Airport in Palma de Mallorca registered the largest number of passengers with 161,229, a 30.4 per cent growth compared with the same period of the previous year.
During March alone, data indicates that the islands received a total of 93,492 passengers travelling on low cost flights, which represents a staggering 47.3 per cent year-on-year increase, and the highest rise anywhere in Spain.
