EIGHT people have been arrested by the Guardia Civil police force in Motril and Maracena (Granada) accused of stealing copper wire.
The suspected thieves are four Romanian and two Spanish citizens, as well as two other Spaniards accused of receiving the stolen material.
The investigation began in March after a telephone company alerted the police to the theft of all the copper wire from its equipment Albuñol.
The detainees allegedly used a greenhouse in Carchuna to handle and hide the loot, which amounted to approximately 1,600 kilos of copper.
The suspects reportedly threw away the wire’s plastic cover in a ravine in Castell de Ferro and only kept the metal.
The investigation is still open and the Guardia Civil are expecting to find more suspects in connection with this case.
