NEW figures have revealed that Almuñecar has managed to double and treble recycling figures over the last four years.
Awareness campaigns, recycling bins and a door-to-door information service all helped increase the number of people in Almuñecar and La Herradura learning the importance of recycling, explained Environment Councillor Luis Aragon.
While the amount of glass recycled in the area has doubled, reaching 11.77 kilos per person per year, extra paper containers allowed that of paper and cardboard to treble.
More containers were placed on the streets and within schools and municipal buildings, and after a while the number of times these were emptied had to be increased thanks to the increasedusage, the councillor said.
Recycling bins can now be found in Almuñecar for glass, cartons, paper and cardboard, used oil as well as clothes and the council also recycles its old lightbulbs.
