Council pays off debt to Cloud Atlas company

CLOUD ATLAS: Movie directors and stars pose during the premiere in Berlin.

MALLORCA Provincial Council will pay off a €150,000 debt to a production company that made the movie Cloud Atlas, directed by American filmmakers Andy and Lana Wachowski and filmed in Mallorca in 2011.
The now disbanded Mallorca Film Commission, an organisation which belonged to the Tourism Department, had committed in 2011 to pay the production company an amount of at least €100,000 to film the movie in different settings across Mallorca,
In exchange, the production company Calle Cruzada SL, committed to spending a total of €2.8 million, mentioning the different Balearic institutions that collaborated in the filmmaking, and advertise the scenes shot in Mallorca.
However, two years later, the council dismissed the payment, claiming that there was not enough money in the municipal coffers to pay off the debt.
Now, three years later, a report analysing the case has been ratified by experts and approved by the regional government, which said the debt would be paid shortly.
