AS much as €60,500 will be spent by Calvia Council to equip all beaches in Magaluf with wifi internet connection. The service is expected to be put out to tender and will be awarded to a company for a period of five years. The council is hoping to make the service available as of the coming summer. The network will also be used to inform users of municipal news as well as beach regulations, such as the prohibition of drinking alcohol on beaches and in public spaces at night and going topless in non-beach areas, amongst others. With this project, municipal representatives explained, the council is not only providing an internet connection for all visitors and locals but also hoping to prevent anti-social situations which have taken place in the area in past summers.
