Javea rejects lighthouse hotel

JAVEA City Council has unanimously rejected the planning application for the conversion of the lighthouse at Cap de San Antoni.
The private proposal was rejected after careful study of the detrimental effect the building would have on the urban surroundings.
The lighthouse stands in an area of special protection. Cap de San Antoni is a breath-taking headland between the Montgó massif and the sea. In 1993, it was declared a nature reserve.
The lighthouse is intended for an interpretation centre for the Marine Reserve Fund.
The Council’s resolution also called for the suspension of any building works related to the development of the lighthouse. Traffic light installations and other infrastructures have been ordered to stop with immediate effect.
The resolution also called for access for the Municipal Technical Services so they can assess any refurbishments already carried out.
