JAVEA Council has endorsed the agreement that schools within the town will adopt the continuous school day, i.e. without the afternoon break that is currently the norm.Family life benefitsThe Department of Education sees the uninterrupted school day implemented in other parts of Europe as beneficial to learning and also more sympathetic to family life, especially within family units where both parents are working and paying for child care.It is hoped that the change will bring about improvements in absenteeism as well as encourage cultural and educational activities outside of school hours.L’Alfas del PiFurther down the coast in an extraordinary session chaired by Vincent Arques, Mayor of L’Afas del Pi, a motion was proposed to change the opening hours of all municipal departments – the town has already voted with a 90 per cent majority to change to the continuous school day.
