€500: owners could risk paying for not cleaning after their dogs

SALOBREÑA Council has launched a campaign called ‘Don’t be a dog’ urging pet owners not to leave their mess behind.
Environment councillor, Martin Valenzuela, said advertising would raise awareness amongst residents, “on the importance of collecting their pets’ mess in streets and parks because, not only it is an obvious image issue, but it also affects the health of residents. In addition, it could potentially cause more serious problems due to possible slips and falls,” said.
A leaflet will be handed out around the most affected areas, and local radio channel will also broadcast information on the new campaign.
Owners who do not clean after their pets risk fines of up to €500.
