Mayor Agustin Navarro samples a range of tapas and pinchos
BENIDORM opened its popular V Concurso de Tapas y Pinchos at the picturesque Mirador on Saturday May 9, with a total of 26 local restaurants competing in quality, originality and creativity.Tapas and pinchos are certainly small morsels of food, mere tasters in fact, but big on flavour and presentation. Benidorm, with its famous ‘Tapas Alley’, has a reputation to uphold and the standard of dishes being presented this time round are even more spectacular than last year.Benidorm’s Mayor Agustín Navarro attended the opening of the Concurso accompanied by the Manager of the Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abreca) Maria Amor. The mayor has congratulated each of the participating restaurants on the “great variety of gastronomic creations that reflect the level and the importance of this event, now in its fifth year.” He added: “The Abreca Association has made an enormous effort with the organisation of this contest, fundamental to Benidorm’s gastronomic calendar.”Benidorm’s tapas and pinchos have developed over the years into contemporary art on a plate that delights the senses and tempts diners to skip dinner altogether! These stylish nibbles have inspired the city’s most talented chefs to create ingenious ways of mixing flavours using only the freshest and tastiest ingredients – and the results are a real delight. This year, the event has been extended to May 17 to allow participating restaurants plenty of scope to showcase the delicious little works of art for which Benidorm is so famous.
