Chess is best

ESTEPONA council decided some time ago chess would be a great way to stimulate young brains, and a successful municipal school proves what a good idea it was.
Just under 2,000 people signed up for the beginners course given by municipal chess school teacher Miguel Abril this year, 1,660 of them at their schools and another 286 at cultural centres and old peoples’ homes.
To end the course, a tournament will be held as part of the town’s Culture Hits the Streets 2015 event on June 13 from 10am to 2pm on Calle Real.
In the meantime, Abril will be supervising Play With Us, a chess day open to the public of all ages on the giant chess boards on the seafront this Sunday, May 24.
Games and chess-related activities will be going on from 10am to 1pm and from 5pm to 8pm, and teams that recently represented Malaga province in the Andalucian Championships in Roquetas de Mar, Almeria, will be attending.
