L’Alfas celebrates Norway’s National Holiday

STREET PARTY: Norwegians in Alfas celebrate their country’s constitution.

MORE than 50,000 Norwegians now call Spain their home.
The pretty coastal town of Alfas del Pi in the Marina Alta put on a superb celebration in recognition of Norway’s Constitution Day, celebrated annually on Sunday May 17 when the Constitution of Norway was signed by the Constituent Assembly in 1814 in Eidsvoll.
There are more than 2,500 Norwegian nationals registered officially in L’Alfas, many of whom joined in Sunday’s festivities in traditional dress, which varied depending on the region.
Lisa Uttersrud, president of the local Norwegian Club, met with L’Alfas Mayor Vicente Arques in the run-up the celebrations to finalise details to feature streets decorated with flags and bunting, and live music.
The Norwegian Club of the Costa Blanca, currently with over 1000 members, has provided a strong Norwegian presence for more than 45 years in the region along with two schools, Den Norske Skole and the Costa Blanca Undervisning, three homes for the elderly and Norwegian owned businesses and shops.
