Velez-Malaga hospital to be repurposed as museum

THE old San Juan Hospital in Velez-Malaga will undergo a comprehensive series of renovations to become the new town museum.
The new home for local history will allow residents and visitors to learn about the area through 1,700 items, including archaeological artefacts, documents, photographs, reproductions, and other exhibits belonging both to public and private collections.
“If any citizen has a piece that they wish to provide to the museum, we will be happy to study the proposal and display it with the rest of the items,” said Mayor Francisco Delgado Bonilla.
“Some of the most important moments of our history will be highlighted in this new, 1,500-square-metre museum, including the Catholic Monarchs conquest, the Phoenician colonisation and the Roman period amongst others.”
The conversion will be carried out by Albaida Infraestructuras SA, and it is expected to be completed in a period of seven months, with a total cost of €750,000.
